MLAX: Hofstra welcomes Manhattan to the Saturday Showdown

Hofstra opened their three-game stand at home on Tuesday night with a 12-6 loss to Binghamton. Dylan McIntosh scored three points on two goals and an assist against the Bearcats, while Colton Rudd delivered two assists, and Rory Jones scored once and added an assist. 3-4 after Tuesday’s loss, Elder (7 G, 8 A) and Gerard Kane (10 G, 5 A) continue to lead the Hofstra offense with 15 points each, while McIntosh, Jones and justin sykes each scored eight goals during the season. Bryan McIntosh leads the Hofstra defense with 17 turnovers and 29 rushes, and Mac doors continues to have a great season in goal with 88 saves, a 9.80 goals-against average and a .564 save percentage.

Manhattan enters Hempstead at 2-3 on the year after a 9-7 loss to St. John’s on March 5. Kyle Gucwa leads the team on Saturday with 14 goals and is second in MAAC with 2.80 goals per game, while his five assists give him 19 points on the year. Liam Walshe scored 10 times and assisted on four goals for 14 points, and Sean MacKinney had 11 points on seven goals and four assists. The Jaspers have already played James M. Shuart this season, a 9-7 neutral-site loss to Navy on Feb. 20.

Saturday will be the first time these teams meet since Hofstra shut out Manhattan, 18-0, in 2015. It will be only the fourth meeting ever between the two programs, and Hofstra leads the series 3-0.
