The Alberta RCMP app, available for download on iOS and Android devices, is a one-stop shop for detachment locations, press releases, crime mapping and statistics, information on initiatives organizational and provides a link to the service’s online crime reporting portal.
“While the app will not replace existing online tools, it will complement existing RCMP web content and consolidate information into a single mobile source,” said the Chief Superintendent. Alberta RCMP Community Safety and Welfare Division Peter Tewfik, Friday.
“Our intention with this app is to help remove barriers to accessing important information which, while already available online, is now available in one convenient place, literally at your fingertips. “

Users of the app will also have access to links for partner law enforcement agencies, mental health support services, Crimestoppers, and Alberta RCMP social media accounts.
Tewfik said linking the pre-existing online crime reporting portal within the app will give Albertans another option on how to report crimes.
“In fact, we’re hoping to get an increase in the reporting of some of these lower-threshold crimes that people are more reluctant to call,” he said.
“We hope this will lower the barrier to people actually reporting these crimes and we have the staff who can handle this influx.”
The app’s launch announcement comes a day after the Alberta RCMP announced it would be holding town halls across the province to engage with Albertans. Tewfik said it’s a priority to connect with communities.

“It’s a way to really help people stay informed about the work that we are doing in the community so that they are aware of the type of crime that is happening, the statistics in their community and to try to reduce these. obstacles so that we are more accessible, ”he said.
Tewfik has stated that the app complies with Canadian privacy laws and does not collect or require any personal information or data.
“The Alberta RCMP app does not track or monitor users in any way,” he said.
Please note that the application itself does not collect any information, which does not include any location data, but the functionality of the application may open your mobile web browser and the web browser may collect information but this information is not not transmitted to the RCMP, and it is not collected by the RCMP.
